Abington Park Museum Ghost Hunt
Join us at Abington park Museum, Northampton for a spooky ghost hunt. This will be our first visit to this location, and we can’t wait to see what awaits us.
Abington Park Museum is housed in a much altered manor house dating from the 1500s, and has a Grade I listing. It has had many guises including a rural medieval farm manor house recorded in the 1086 Domesday Survey, a country house, asylum and lastly a museum. The building sits in what was Northampton’s first public park, opened in 1897. You can imagine the energy that resides at this location.
The museum building also used to be a gaol. In 1791 the county gaol was built on Angel Lane from local yellow sandstone that accommodated 140 prisoners. However, by 1840 the gaol was deemed too small and in 1846 a redbrick L-shaped block was built to house a further 150 prisoners. Male and female prisoners were then able to be separated. With male prisoners living in the new block and the Georgian block only for female prisoners. This is the building now occupied by Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.
Those imprisoned at Northampton gaol had their days filled with tasks that included shoemaking and thrum (knitting), or mat making. Some walked the treadmill which ground corn. Work stopped for meal times and exercise in 20 outdoor exercise yards in the airing ground.
A variety of crimes saw people punished at the gaol including simply stealing a cabbage from a market stall, poisoning cattle and even murder. However, those sentenced to death it was a short final walk from the condemned cells to the hanging platform outside the judge’s gardens situated behind the gaol, in 1880 the gaol closed.
We will attempt to connect with the spirits and energies left behind during the buildings vast and changing history. In additional to the history surrounding the building, there are a number of artifacts housed at the museum that may well be holding on to residual energy that can also cause disturbances.
The museum is huge and includes plenty of rooms to investigate and hold various seances and experiments in.
Nearby the museum is St Peters & St Pauls church which has ministered to the community since the twelfth century. Could we see a cross over of spirit from here?
In addition to the usual shout out and listen method of ghost hunting, you will all have the opportunity to take part in various forms of divination for instance: seances, mirror scrying, table tipping and our favorite human pendulum and lone vigils for those brave enough. Various ghost hunting equipment will be available for you to use.
We will meet you outside the main entrance at 18:30hrs for a 19:00hrs start and to finish at 01:00hrs Sunday morning.
There is no parking on site, however, you can find parking on the road around the park.
Tickets are £40 per person.
Ticket price includes Tea/coffee and biscuits, however; please feel free to bring your own refreshments.
Please wear warm clothing, sensible footwear and bring your own torch.
Those found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be told to leave and no refunds will be given.
